BiCal<sup>5</sup>  BiCal5

is an easily soluble supplementary food for a balanced energy enrichment of the diet with carbohydrates (maltodextrin) and fat:
  • high energy supply in the form of easily available carbohydrates and oils/fats with reduced osmotic effect - gluten free
  • optimal fat composition regarding saturated, monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fatty acids with a ratio of approx. 1/3 each
  • the ratio of linoleic acid : α-Linolenic acid (ω - 6 : ω - 3) = 5,4 : 1 is in accordance with latest recommendations for intake of dietary fat
  • free from fructose, lactose, galactose and sucrose
  • free from dietary fibre 
  • strictly low in sodium, low in electrolytes
  • odourless and almost tasteless, low sweetness
  • stable during baking and cooking; no thickening or swelling properties
  • easily soluble in beverages, cream, puddings, mueslis, cereals and in tube feeds 

Definition and Indication

Energy enriched diets - enhanced energy supply in the form of easily available carbohydrates and fat, e.g.:
  • in pre- and post-operative situation to improve the nutritional status
  • in short gut syndrom, cystic fibrosis or anorexia
Carbohydrate substitution:
  • in  cases of fructose-, lactose-, sucrose indigestion or intolerance
  • in a low fibre diet, e.g. in case of acute inflammatory bowel disease
Elemental diets, e.g. in disease related maldigestion and malabsorption conditions:
  • Crohn's disease, colitis ulcerosa, celiac disease or short bowel syndrome
  • post-operative nutrition, tumour cachexia or radiotherapy, HIV/Aids
Liquid feeds and tube feeds:
  • in disorders where normal food supply is too difficult, impossible or inefficient, such as post-operative nutrition, impaired digestive function
Low protein and/or elektrolyte-defined  diets:
  • for securing energy supply in order to avoid gluconeogenesis in patients with renal failure, phenylketonuria or urea cacle disorders
  • low-potassium, energy-rich supplementary food in haemodialysis

Dosage

The daily amount of BiCal5 should be determined in a diet plan considering the individual energy- and fat requirements of the patient. Ideally the daily amount is distributed in several single portions.

18 g BiCal5 plus 100 ml drinking water. For easy measuring use the scoop provided in the tin (1 level scoop contains 6 g,  
3 scoops = 18 g)

  • 120 mosmol/kg drinking water 
  • therefore the standard solution acts like hypotonic in the intestinal tract.
