  • Crostini (pl. from "crostino" = diminutive from "crosta" (crust)) play an important role in the Italian cuisine. Basically they consist of slices of farm-baked bread made from wheat flour. Sometimes bread made from other grains is used though, depending on the region. These slices are rubbed in with garlic and sprinkled with olive oil before consumption (source: Wikipedia).
